Dwight Hawkins 118 lbs beat Herman Marques 118 lbs by UD in round 12 of 12

"Dwight Hawkins of Los Angeles used his flashing left like a sabre tonight as he slashed out a unanimous 12 round decision over Herman Marques of Stockton for the vacant California bantamweight title. Although badly cut, Marques battled back gamely. Twice during the late rounds, referee Tommy Hart halted the fast action and had a doctor inspect Marques' cuts about the eyes, cheek and nose. Hawkins was in command all the way. He got Marques, former National AAU bantam champ, on the run early with the stabbing left, and followed deftly with jolting uppercuts on the inside exchanges." -Associated Press
