"Rugged Dwight Hawkins of Los Angeles, scored a unanimous 10 round decision over Mexico City's Jorge (Baby) Salazar Monday night. Hawkins, ranked among the world's top 10 featherweights, used a solid body attack to pile up a big lead in points through the first eight rounds, then coasted through the final two rounds in an effort to protect a cut over his right eye." -United Press International

  • The cut incurred by Hawkins subsequently required 4 stitches.
  • This was the first boxing contest staged at the Melodyland Theatre, which was adjacent to Disneyland. However, the promoters only attracted 593 spectators and realized a poor gross gate of $2,001.
