"Dwight Hawkins, Los Angeles, scored a TKO at 2:40 of the 9th round over Jose Garcia, Las Vegas, in their scheduled 10 rounder at the Silver Slipper. Hawkins decked young Garcia midway through the 9th round with a short left jab to the jaw. The youngster took the mandatory eight-count, but was in difficulty as Hawkins came back to rake him with hard body blows. Garcia finally went down again on another left to the jaw with 20 seconds remaining in the round and referee Mike Kaplan stopped it." -United Press International
