Dwight Muhammad Qawi 196 lbs lost to Ossie Ocasio 197 lbs by MD in round 10 of 10

"A shock meter was needed to record the astonishment of announcers Ferdie Pacheco and Marv Albert when Las Vegas judges awarded bicyclist Ossie Ocasio the decision over Dwight Muhammad Qawi in a semifinal bout cablecast on Showtime last week. Pacheco scored every round for Qawi and at one point even suggested the referee might disqualify Ocasio for not fighting. Attempts to talk to the judges afterward were foiled by Nevada commission chairman Duane Ford, who wouldn't appear himself." (Newsday May 24, 1987)

"Dwight Muhammad Qawi will remain the International Boxing Federation's No. 1-ranked cruiserweight, despite a 10-round majority-decision loss in Las Vegas, Nev., last week, I.B.F. President Robert W. Lee said yesterday. Qawi, a former World Boxing Association cruiserweight and World Boxing Council light-heavyweight champion, lost to Ossie Ocasio last Friday when two judges favored Ocasio and one called the fight a draw. Lee, who was at ringside, said, "This is an unusual course of action for us, but I felt the decision was questionable." The No. 1 ranking maintains Qawi's position for a mandatory challenge to Evander Holyfield." (New York Times May 20, 1987)
