Earl Conners's last name is usually given as "Conner" in the early Tacoma newspaper reports [2], and then as "Conners." The April 28, 1914 Tacoma Daily News reported that he was called "Puggy" as a kid. He had been born March 19, 1896, in Portland, OR, and had come to Tacoma thirteen years earlier. He was then residing at 3007 East F Street. He had started boxing the previous July.

He was the brother of fellow Tacoma boxers Babe Conners and Harold Conners.

According to the March 17, 1915 Tacoma Daily News, Conners and fellow boxer Paul Steele (his manager) had donated skin to the badly-burned three-and-a-half-year-old Willie Haukas. That May he announced his plans to go after the bantamweight title. He was the Pacific Northwest Bantamweight Champion at the time. [3]

The Aug. 18, 1920 Tacoma News Tribune featured a photo of Conners, noting that he had retired. It mentioned his wife was Miss Marie Ambrose of East Spokane Avenue, Tacoma.
