- Date: 1982-05-08
- Location: Reunion Arena, Dallas, Texas, USA
- Referee: Arlen Bynum
"Former heavyweight contender Earnie Shavers, 216, of Warren, Ohio, continued along the comeback trail last night when the referee stopped his fight against Britain's Joe Bugner, 245, at 2:14 of the 2nd round. Shavers floored Bugner with a right uppercut late in the 1st round but Bugner got to his feet at the count of four. Shavers then caught Bugner above the left eye, opening a cut that referee Spider Bynum deemed serious enough to call in the doctor and then halt the fight. Bugner, who emerged from a 16 month layoff, was disappointed about the decision to stop the fight. Bugner said he would have beaten Shavers had the fight been allowed to continue." -Reuters
- This bout was fought on the undercard of the Salvador Sanchez v Rocky Garcia world featherweight title contest.

- "The guy can't fight. He never should have fought me. Never fight a puncher when you're off that long." -Earnie Shavers
