Murphy was the promoter of boxing in Springfield, Missouri during the early-to-mid 1930s. His son Harold (Millionaire) Murphy was one of the most successful boxers to come out of Springfield, and was promoted many times by Ed Murphy. Murphy later moved to Arizona, before dying in Riverside, California in 1941.
