In a bout on the Tsurkan-Feliciano undercard at Utopia Paradise Theatre in the Bronx, Bronx featherweight Eddie 'Crazy Eddie' Irizarry battled debuting Jean Ramos of Rochester in a bout with furious exchanges while it lasted. Midway through the bout, Irizarry knocked down Ramos, but after the knockdown, Irizarry clearly hit Ramos while was Ramos was on the floor. Ramos got up, and Irizarry had a point taken away but no disqualification. It should be noted that Ramos, who clearly had not recovered from getting hit while on the floor, was not given a rest period for recovery by the referee after the illegal blow, making this bout a possible candidate for appeal and review by the New York State Boxing Commission at the time the bout occurred. The bout continued after the first knockdown, and shortly thereafter there was a second knockdown. Ramos got up, but the referee stopped the bout at that point.
