According to a UP news item in the March 15, 1939 edition of the Santa Cruz Evening News, one Edward Maul died at the age of 47 during the previous day (March 14, 1939 after a bout with tuberculosis. As Eddie McGovern, "he fought as a heavyweight in the San Francisco bay area fifteen, and was
seldom (sic) knocked out."
