"Eddie Perkins, 133 1/2, stopped Baby Vasquez, 133 3/4, on a TKO at 2:40 of the 7th round of their lightweight scrap at Capital Arena Wednesday night. Eddie slashed open a cut on Baby's face in the 7th. The cut fired up Vasquez but Eddie met his rushes with a sticking left jab that unloosed a stream of blood on the Mexican invader's cheek. Perkins was comfortably ahead on two of the three official cards when referee Ray Bowen escorted Vasquez to the ropes for the eye examination where ringside physician John Kneipp refused to allow Vasquez to continue." -Associated Press
