"Young Eddie Perkins of Chicago, making his first major ring appearance, had too many sharp combinations and scored a unanimous 10 round decision over New York's Frankie Ryff. There was plenty of blood, some of it being splattered into the press row and near Barney Ross, who took over as Ryff's manager several months ago. Ryff's nose began bleeding in the 3rd after Perkins decked him for a mandatory eight count with a short right. In the 5th Ryff's frequently slashed left eyebrow opened up. Perkins' nose, and a slight cut under his left eye, also poured blood." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 48-44 Perkins
