"Eddie Perkins, world junior welterweight champion, scored a 10th round TKO over Albuquerque's Joey Limas Tuesday night in an over the weight non-title fight. Referee Jim Cleary stopped the fight with Limas bleeding from a cut over the left eyebrow which Perkins opened late in the 9th round. It was a right hand which did the damage. Limas' corner tried gallantly to close the gash between rounds but didn't succeed. A light tap by the champion started the cut bleeding again and that's when Cleary stepped in to stop the bout. The crowd watched Limas, 144, stay even with Perkins, 143, for the first four rounds. But after that it was all Perkins. The champion from Chicago hit Limas constantly and was able to keep Limas off balance. Perkins didn't even appear to have raised a sweat during the course of the fight and was unmarked." -Associated Press
