"Lahouari Godih of Algeria used left jabs and left hooks on Wednesday night to win an upset 10 round split decision over young Chicago lightweight, Eddie Perkins, in their TV fight at the New Capitol Arena. Godih, 139 1/2, piled up a lead in the early rounds with his forcing attack and withstood Perkins' later rallies. Perkins, 138, dropped Godih with a right to the chin in the 9th round but referee Charlie Reynolds ruled it a slip. Godih also suffered a cut inside his mouth in the 6th round and it bled slightly thereafter." -United Press International
