"Eddie Perkins of Chicago, top-ranking junior welterweight, today praised Mel Middleton, whom he defeated. Perkins, whose 137 pounds gave him a seven pound advantage over the No. 2 ranked junior lightweight, handed Middleton's ambitions to campaign in the lightweight class a setback Monday night with a TKO. The main feature at the Arena was scheduled for 10 rounds. Perkins caught Middleton, of Philadelphia, flush on the chin and buckled his knees. He followed with left hook and right cross combinations.
