"Eddie Perkins of the USA won the world junior welterweight title with almost ridiculous ease Saturday night from the Philippines' young Roberto Cruz at Rizal Stadium. Perkins, from Chicago, is four inches shorter than Cruz, but he's four years older. The difference in ring experience and skill was glaring. Boxing with a deceptively smooth rhythm, Perkins was calling the shots all the way. He knocked Cruz down in the 1st round for a no-count. In the 3rd he opened up with a sparkling two-handed flurry to the head that made it clear who was the boss." -Associated Press
- Unofficial AP scorecard - 73-64 Perkins
- Attendance - 25,000
