"Former world junior welterweight champion Eddie Perkins of Chicago Monday night had too much class for Orient welterweight titleholder Ryu Sorimachi of Japan and won a lop-sided 10 round decision at Korakuen Hall. There were no knockdowns in the fight. Perkins, however, had Sorimachi bleeding badly from the nose with good lefts to the face. Perkins almost stopped Sorimachi in the 8th round when he staggered him with a hard right to the jaw. He then drove Sorimachi into a neutral corner and hurt him with hard lefts and rights to the head. Sorimachi's knees crumbled but he held on to his feet and came out fighting." -United Press International
