Viruet, 141, of Jersey City, stunned Bing with an uppercut, hook and overhand right from the ropes which sent Bing to the canvas in a daze and gave Viruet his seventh straight victory. • This bout was originally scheduled to be Sean O'Grady v Edwin Viruet, but fell into jeopardy two days before the fight with O'Grady's managers from the Empire Sports Club threatening withdrawal if Viruet didn't sign the contract clause guaranteeing a return match in Oklahoma City if O'Grady lost. Top Rank promoter Bob Arum countered that Viruet had signed the contract clause and that he felt O'Grady's team was backing out because they felt he couldn't win.
