According to his son in an email to BoxRec in October 2022, Egon Eckardt had only one amateur bout. He fought for a boxing club in Germany, named TV Oberkochen, against TSB Heidenheim in 1953.

According to a newspaper account of the show and bout: "Schuppert (Heidenheim) won at light welterweight after a very tough fight over Eckardt (Oberkochen), by stoppage in the second round. He proves that he will still be a force to be reckoned with in the coming fights."

Eckardt was born in Großschwabhausen, Thüringen, Germany, and resided in Oberkochen, Baden-Württemberg when he had his one and only career bout.
