"Elijah 'Tap Tap' Makhathini, South African middleweight champion, knocked out Gary Guiden, USA, in the 4th round of a scheduled 10 round bout. Both fighters went on the attack from the 1st round with the crowd cheering.. It was a close quarter fight with both firing in rapid blows. Guiden's left hook scored but the South African southpaw showed no effect. Guiden was very fast but 'Tap Tap' was scoring with left hooks to the body to slow Guiden down. In the 4th round, Guiden was caught on the ropes and a right hook sent his gum shield flying. The American fought back strongly but Makhathini swarmed in, throwing blows, and a left hook sent Guiden reeling along the ropes when referee Stanley Christodoulou stopped it." -Ring Magazine, September 1979 issue
