"Elisha Obed successfully defended his junior middleweight title Saturday night with a 2nd round knockout of 10th ranked Tony Gardner of Oklahoma City. The end came at 2:55 of the 2nd round. It began with a crushing uppercut that caught Gardner square in the face and sent him reeling. Obed followed with a straight left and another looping right and Gardner sat heavily, rolled over and took the count. It took him a full minute to regain his feet. Gardner's brows and nose were reddened before the fight was a minute old from Obed's accurate jabs. Gardner never landed a serious blow." -Associated Press
