Emile Griffith 154 lbs beat Harry Scott 160 lbs by RTD in round 7 of 10

  • Date: 1965-10-04
  • Location: Royal Albert Hall, Kensington, London, United Kingdom
  • "Welterweight champion Emile Griffith, taking charge in the 4th round, battered Harry Scott so badly Monday night that the Briton did not come out for the 8th round of their scheduled 10 round non-title bout. Griffith, who went into the ring at 154 pounds and weathered a heavy Scott attack in the early rounds, was awarded a TKO in the 7th. Griffith used relentless punches to the body and speed to wear down his opponent, who weighed 160 1/2 pounds. Griffith drew blood from Scott's nose in the 7th, forcing the Englishman to hang on to avoid the champion's brilliant combinations. At the bell a weary Scott slumped on his stool. Scott's manager, Arthur Boggis, called the referee into his corner to tell him Scott was through." -United Press International
