"Emile Griffith, NY, five-time world champion, defeated Manny Gonzalez of Houston Thursday night in a dull 10 round middleweight fight. Griffith, 35, was the aggressor, scoring well with left hooks. Gonzalez, 34, showed little desire in a bout that saw few telling blows thrown and neither fighter marked. The crowd of 2,300 booed when one judge scored the bout a 98-98 draw, but the other judge and the referee gave the decision to Griffith." -Associated Press
- This card was a benefit for the Israel Emergency Fund.
- Having Arthur Mercante as the referee was a concession given to Gil Clancy, Griffith's manager, from the Tampa promoter.
- Prior to this bout Griffith was already signed to meet Tony Mundine in Paris 18 days later.
