Enrique Bolanos 134 lbs beat John L Davis 132 lbs by UD in round 10 of 10

"Enrique Bolanos, Mexico City slugger, today is a much tougher top challenger for lightweight champion Ike Williams' crown. The slugging Latin got his toughening last night before 10,000 fans at the Olympic Auditorium. There he won a close 10-round decision over John L. Davis of Oakland, Calif. The decision was unanimous. But Bolanos had a much harder time subduing Davis than he did a year ago. The Oakland fighter seemed willing to take three or four of Bolanos' punches in the hopes of landing one. The Mexican, however, counted on a steady rain of jabs to Davis' head." -Associated Press

  • Going into this fight, Bolanos already was signed for his 3rd world title try against Ike Williams for the summer of '49 on a Lou Costello Youth Foundation Benefit card.
