The bout was even for the first five rounds, as Bolanos scored with lefts to the head and body, while Thomas landed with right hands to the head. In the 6th, after Bolanos landed four consecutive right hands, he landed a powerful right to the head of Thomas, which floored him for a seven count. Thomas was then floored again by a right hand for a three count, and for a third time on another right for two, at the bell.
With Thomas still in distress, Bolanos again landed another right hand, which sent Thomas down along the ropes for a one-count.
