"Ernesto Marcel of Panama successfully defended his featherweight championship with a 9th round knockout over Japanese challenger Shigemitsu Nemoto Saturday night. The Panamanian brutally punished Nemoto, drawing blood from his mouth, nose and eyebrow. Nemoto, several inches shorter than his rival, barely was able to reach Marcel. He was knocked down twice in the 9th round and the referee ended the count with Nemoto on the canvas, unable to get up." -Associated Press
