Ernie Bigney was a top prospect for the Canadian title in the junior welterweight class during the 1970-72 period. After losing his first match to Eddie Phalen he ran off eleven straight victories including a victory over Phalen. He registered wins over experienced fighters like Jo J o Jacson and Barry Sponagle who went on to challenge for Canadian titles. He finished his career in 1973 with a 12-6 -0 record and scored 5 kos.
Bigney went to Teacher's College in 1970 and in 1973 became a successful Industrial Arts teacher . He married Barbara Beswick and had four children.
