"Ernie 'Indian Red' Lopez stopped Bennie McCorvey in the 1st round of their scheduled 10 round welterweight bout Wednesday night at the Silver Slipper Ballroom. Lopez, of Los Angeles, drove his San Jose opponent through the ropes with a two-fisted barrage just before the end of the round. Referee Davy Pearl waved McCorvey out of action.
