"Ernie (Indian Red) Lopez, Orem, Utah, scored a majority 10 round decision over Johnny Brooks, Henderson, Nevada, in the Strip Fight of the Week at the Silver Slipper ballroom Monday night. There were no knockdowns in the fast-paced scrap but Brooks bloodied the Utah fighter's nose in the 4th round and it bled through the remainder of the contest. Brooks carried the fight with his ranked opponent through the first five rounds, at which point he was in front on all three official cards. The blood-smeared Lopez came back strong through the 6th, 7th and 8th rounds and was able to withstand the Nevada boy's late rally to win his narrow decision." -United Press International
