"Ernie (Indian Red) Lopez, Los Angeles, slugged his way to his 21st victory against one loss by winning a TKO over Mel Fields, Phoenix, Ariz., in a scheduled 10 round bout at the Hacienda Hotel. Lopez caught Fields with a barrage of left and right combinations which drew blood from his nose and mouth to cause referee Harry Krause to stop the fight at :25 of the 3rd round. Fields pressed the fight in the opening round and in the second, appeared to have Lopez in trouble with a combination of lefts and rights. But Lopez dropped Fields to one knee as the bell ended the 2nd round. He came back to finish the job in the 3rd." -United Press International
