- Date: 1969-01-30

- Referee: John Thomas
"Ernie (Indian Red) Lopez, 147, put together a savage assortment of body punches to cause Raul Soriano, 147, to fold up in the 9th round of their bout at the Olympic. The 23 year old Lopez got to Soriano in the 4th round and continued to give him a body beating that slowed the loser down to a walk. Out to avenge a loss suffered to Soriano last year, Ernie had the Mexican helpless on the ropes in the 9th round. A volley of lefts and rights sent Soriano to the canvas and his chief second, Harry Kabakoff, tossed in the towel." -Ring magazine, May 1969 issue
- Attendance: 7,835
- Gate: $34,294
- The loss to Lopez scuttled a proposed February 16, 1969 title fight for Soriano against welterweight titleholder Curtis Cokes. The bout was to be held in Mexico City's Sports Palace with a purse of $70,000 for the champion Cokes.
- This bout was originally scheduled for November 21, 1968, but was postponed when Lopez came down with the flu.
