A short obituary on Eva Shain appeared in the Ring Magazine: Holiday 1999 issue, p. 11. She had died of cancer August 19, 1999. She was described as a "pioneer female judge." She was the wife of Frank Shain, a ring announcer. "The ubiquitous duo had been a ringside staple since the mid-1970s, when Eva received her judge's license from the New York State Athletic Commission."
Her professional judging debut was the Vito Antuofermo-Bruce Cantrell fight in Commack, NY, November 28, 1975. The last bout she judged was the Johnny Tapia-Nana Konadu fight on December 5, 1998. She had worked more than 5,000 fights in the meantime.
