- Oquendo ranked No.13 by the WBO coming into the fight, while Holyfield was ranked No.15 by the WBC.

- In an interview with 15rounds.com, Oquendo said, "The Holyfield fight was hard because I had strep throat and a high fever leading up to the fight. I could not swallow, causing me not to eat all week and it was painful just to drink water.
