Levine came from behind to "belt Jimmy to the canvas. On his way down Doyle struck his head on a ring buckle." (AP) He sustained a brain concussion and was carried out of the ring to the local hospital. He was out of action for nine months. He later sustained another brain concussion in the same ring in a world title bout with Sugar Ray Robinson and died from those injuries.
