According to the Los Angeles Times, Morgan took seven out of the ten rounds, with one even. Morgan pounded Hess effectively to the body with both hands. Morgan had Hess nearly helpless in the 7th round, as he tore into him with both hands to the head.

The Los Angeles Record reported that Hess was contractually obligated to weight 135 pounds for the bout, and forfeited $500 for weighing a quarter pound over the agreed weight.
