Montes was knocked down for an eight-count in the 2nd round, but fought back valiantly. A punch to the heart, hurt Montes in the 6th round, and led to three knockdowns in quick succession. The crowd was screaming for the fight to be stopped, as Montes appeared to be unable to protect himself. The referee stopped the bout after the 6th round, on the advice of Montes' corner.
