The bout was stopped after Slaughter showered Walters with punches along the north ropes, and appeared to have Walters groggy. The stoppage was unpopular with the crowd, as Walters appeared ready to fight Slaughter after stoppage, and only three seconds remained in the round. Slaughter had dominated the bout, as Walters could not avoid his jab, per the Springfield Daily News.
