Takeshita knocked Figueroa down in the 3rd round after landing a right to the midsection, and several blows as he was going down. The referee however ruled that Takeshita had fouled, and gave Figueroa one minute of rest. Upon resumption of the bout, Takeshita pounded Figueroa, who had two bad cuts over his left eye, until the referee called his corner into look at him. At this point Figueroa's handler Roxie Eisen stopped the bout.
