At the end of the 5th round Asikainen was trapped in a corner, when he and Tendil started to exchange and Asikainen caught Tendil with a crushing overhand right to the chin, which dropped Tendil face forward to the mat, causing the referee to immediately stop the fight. Tendil lied on the canvas out cold a couple of minutes but he finally rose on his own. Asikainen was crowned the new European Union middleweight champion.
