Cocoa Kid 147 lbs beat George Martin 147 lbs by UD in round 15 of 15
- Date: 1938-09-09
- Location: Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Georgie Martin, doughty South End battler, was nursing bruises today in the wake of his unsuccessful attempt to lift the New England welterweight boxing crown from the dusky brow of Louis (Kid Cocoa) Hardwick. In all but two of the 15 rounds witnessed by 4000 fans in Boston Garden, Martin was outclassed and outpunched by his more experienced opponent from New Haven. The Boston challenger broke even in two rounds. Hardwick won the unanimous "nod" of officials, was plainly the better boxer, and his left jab was a constant annoyance to Martin. The negro slid out of tight spots by tying up his foeman and generally proved himself a superior ringman.
