In the 2nd round, Jackson used a right hand that began to swell one of Cocoa Kid's eyes, with a whole side of his face eventually swelling up. Jackson maintained control through the 6th round, before Cocoa Kid had his best round of the fight in the 7th. In the 8th round, Jackson dropped Cocoa Kid with a right hand to the jaw for a nine-count. Cocoa Kid was down once more before the 8th round ended, and he would spend the 9th round desperately holding on. The bout was stopped at the start of the 10th round.
