A thrilling fight--Macias knocked down for a nine-count from a left hook in the fourth round--Duffy staggered by a straight right in the seventh--the referee awarded the fight to Macias on a TKO when Duffy would not break and resume fighting. (Long Beach Press Telegram)
The San Pedro News-Pilot, felt that Macias had been down for thirteen seconds in the 4th round. Duffy had also been down for a nine-count in the 3rd round. The stoppage prompted fans to throw items into the ring in protest.
