Christensen was floored twice during the fight, but referee Ray Miller refused to count them as knockdowns. The Ring, June 1955, criticized him for that: The slip in the 6th was really a hard left hook, the push in the 8th was a series which beat Christensen through the ropes. Giovanelli nearly stopped Christensen in round 10.
