Angott easily defeated Massey, as he rushed him to the ropes during the bout, repeatedly. Massey appeared to be on the verge of a knockout in the 6th and 9th rounds. The state commission barred Massey after the bout for his poor performance, thought the Louisville Courier-Journal felt that his effort wasn't any worse than that of Wishy Jones against Angott.
