Montgomery showed little respect for Nettlow's attack, and went after him from the start; while Nettlow using a swift moving attack retreated and landed rapid flurries. In the 6th round, a body shot, which Montgomery felt was low, appeared to hurt Montgomery. The bout slowed after that, with Nettlow having the advantage. In the 8th round, Montgomery's heavy body attack turned the fight in his favor again. In the 9th round, Montgomery hurt Nettlow with a series of rights to the jaw, and attempted to finish him along the ropes to no avail. Nettlow was battered again for the first two minutes of the 10th round.
