Cowles Stadium in Christchurch New Zealand was packed with over 2000 excited fight fans there to watch NZ Heavyweight Shane Cameron defend his WBA Pan African and IBF Pan Pacific Heavyweight Titles against the current South African Heavyweight Champion Osbourne Machimana.
Cameron opened strongly in the early rounds hurting Machimana with strong body punching punches and powerful right hands to the head. Cameron controlled the early rounds easily slipping many of Machimana’s attemped jabs and power shots. The pressure on Machimana continued into the 4th round when Cameron dropped him to the mat with a volley of power punches culminating in a powerful overhand right to the head. Machimana proved a durable opponent trying to come back in the 5th and 6th rounds, trying to upset Cameron with some low blows earning a warning from referee Lance Revell.
Machimana was still a danger when hurt, firing back punches after Cameron’s strong attacks into the 7th and beginning of the 8th round. Shane Cameron’s continued pressure again bought a knockdown at the end of the 8th round with the bell ringing and Machimana on his feet albeit on wobbly legs. The final knockdown came early in the 9th round with Cameron banging hard to the body again to open Machimana to powerful left and right hook combinations, leaving Machimana unable to continue. Referee Lance Revell stopped the fight for a TKO in the 9th round.
Once again Cameron has proved capable of knocking out opponents early or late in the rounds with Machimana proving to be a competitive tough fighter keeping the large crowd well entertained with a top quality boxing display.
