Pedro Montanez, Puerto Rican welterweight contender, scored a quick knockout over Werther Arcelli of Boston in the first round of their eight round bout at the Rockland Palace tonight. The end came at 2:48 of the opening heat after Montanez had walked into a half dozen or so long lefts looking for an opening. Montanez weighed 144, Arcelli 145 ½. Arcelli connected lightly with his left several times as the Puerto Rican looked for a chance to put over the crusher. Then it took only one wallop, a hard, straight right which landed flush on the jaw. Arcelli landed flat on his back and was counted out. A crowd of 4,500 saw the fight. [The Philadelphia Inquirer]
