- Gannon versus Carter 1997 IBA titular rematch of the 1996 bout won by Carter in the first round, held 90 days later.
- Different outcome. Gannon became the first IBA World Light Heavyweight champion to regain the title after losing it. Carter received a standing eight count after taking severe punishment from head shots while on the rope in the fifth round. After taking further punishment from head shots on the ropes, Carter turned his back to Gannon after getting battered, not defending himself at all, whereby Referee Steinwinder immediately stopped the fight to save Carter from further punishment.
