On the same bill, Simpiwe Nongqayi (51.78 kg) stopped Khulile Makeba at 1:13 of the eighth round to win the low-rent World Boxing Foundation junior bantamweight title, which had been vacant.

The ring-worn Makeba (52 kg) had been down twice when the 29-year-old former amateur star, who represented South Africa at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, sent him back into the ropes once more and referee Eddie Marshall stepped in.

Nongqayi takes his record to 12-0 (6) and Makeba drops to 22-6-1 (12).
