- Date: 1947-03-05
- Location: Arcadia Ballroom, Providence, Rhode Island, USA
- Referee: Sharkey Buonanno
- Judge: Eddie Jansen
- Judge: Henry Devron
The split decision in favor of Lovatt was protested loudly by supporters of Giusti. The referee Sharkey Buonnano was unable to leave the ring for half an hour, finally being escorted by police, and then continuing out into the streets before he left.
The Providence Journal agreed that Giusti deserved to win, giving him the bout by a wide margin of 6-1-1 in rounds. Lovatt was knocked down for a nine-count in the 2nd round. The Journal called it a slam-bang affair, lacking in ring science, that was a hard fight to judge, stating it was a "fluctuating affair."
