Laura came into the first round without hiding her intentions, after a minute of exchanging introductory jabs, Laura unleashed a flurry of hooks that shook the local girl who now realised that she had to move to avoid the devastating right of the American. Laura took the first round.
Conjestina’s corner had work to do and after the break, she came back moving more trading heavy punches. However ignoring of basic fundamentals (keep your guard up all the time) on the part of Achieng ended in Ramsey flooring her with a ferocious left hook. A visibly shaken Achieng took the count on her knee and was up looking good. The crowd was equally stunned, never had Conjestina hit the canvas.
The third round was definitely Achieng’s as she recovered to move well, avoiding Ramsey wayward jab and countering with her own jabs hooks and some beautifully timed ducking. Using her slight reach advantage, she even landed a few strong ones, startling the American. The local fans took this as a sign of good things and everybody was up and shouting their support for Conjestina.
The fourth round could have gone either way, though Ramsey had the edge again, but the remaining two rounds saw the Kenyan completely overwhelmed by Ramsey’s strong onslaught. A lack of follow-up punches by Achieng when she went inside gave Ramsey opportunity to strike solidly. Achieng who was now visibly affected by the punches she had taken started to hold. It became clear that Ramsey had it all wrapped up when she knocked Achieng down two more times. A furious right from Ramsey Achieng on the canvas leaning against the ropes, when she took the count she was still wobbling and many of the fans agreed with the referee’s decision to stop the fight.
